Why we built this instead of using Google Translate

If you copy a Korean lyric into Google Translate and turn on romanization, the output frequently mixes two incompatible systems (Revised Romanization and McCune-Reischauer) and occasionally gives a phonetic hybrid that doesn't match what k-pop fans actually write. That's fine for reading a menu; it's confusing when you're trying to sing along or subtitle a fan-edit.

This tool sticks to modern RR — the same system Melon, Bugs and Genie use on their official lyric pages — and adds the small set of assimilation rules that make lyrics sound natural when read aloud (ㅎ aspiration, batchim carryover into ㅇ, ㄴ/ㄹ blending). It's not a linguistics-grade transliterator and won't win an academic argument, but it will match how a Korean fan writes the romaja on Tumblr.

Does it handle liaison and assimilation?

Yes, for the common cases: ㅎ aspiration (하고 → hago), batchim carryover into a ㅇ initial (음악 → eumak), ㄴ/ㄹ assimilation, and simplified complex-batchim rules. It doesn't attempt more obscure academic rules — the goal is a lyric-friendly output that matches how fans actually write romaja.

Why is it different from Google Translate's romanization?

Google mixes RR with McCune-Reischauer (an older academic system) and sometimes gives a phonetic hybrid that doesn't match k-pop convention. Our output sticks to modern RR so it looks the same as the romanized column on Melon or your favourite lyric transcription blog.

Can I translate the lyrics into English?
